Executions slated 5/12 & 5/13 for co-defendants Varga & Galloway

Two days, two executions. This is Texas.

Execution Watch, the radio program that airs whenever Texas puts a citizen to death, will broadcast and stream live during both executions, unless stays are issued, with on-the-scene coverage from Huntsville, legal analysis, and in-depth interviews.

SCHEDULED TO BE EXECUTED
  KEVIN VARGA, condemned for a murder in Greenville, Texas, east of Dallas, during a 1998 robbery in which he was joined by Billy John Galloway (May 13 execution date), and two women. The women pleaded to lesser charges. (More at www.executionwatch. org > Backpage on Kevin Varga.)

SHOW LINEUP
  Host: OTIS MACLAY, a broadcast veteran, he often co-hosts KPFT’s The Monitor on Monday nights and is technical director of Execution Watch. A former program director of KPFT, Otis came to Houston from KPFT’s sister station in New York, WBAI.

  Legal Analyst: JIM SKELTON, a retired attorney, continues to contribute to the profession by teaching a popular series of continuing-education classes in appellate law. During a distinguished career he has participated in capital trials as either prosecutor or defense attorney.

  Featured Interview: SANDRINE AGEORGES-SKINNER, French wife of Texas death row prisoner Hank Skinner. She is active in the fight to exonerate her husband and to abolish capital punishment. Ms. Ageorges-Skinner chairs the International Committee of the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty and represents the group on the steering committee of the World Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.

  Reporter, Death House, Huntsville: GLORIA RUBAC, a long-time activist against the death penalty and leader of the Texas Death Penalty Abolition Movement, which may be followed on Facebook.

  Legal Analyst: ROBERT ROSENBERG, a Houston attorney who has been handling death row cases since the 1980s. As a civil rights lawyer, Robert has represented clients on behalf of the American Civil Liberties Union.

  Featured Interview: ESTEBAN ROGELIO GARCIA, Raised in Bryan, Texas, Garcia became a heroin addict at 14, was a convict at 19, and spent two decades in and out of prison for petty crimes before getting out for good. A self-educated attorney, he authored The United States Jailhouse Lawyer's Manual and, more recently the autobiographical Journey Into My Soul. He lives in Texas, where he works as a legal writer and consultant.
