TEXAS PLANS TO EXECUTE:
JERRY MARTIN,
condemned in connection with the 2007 death of a guard at a state
prison in Huntsville during an escape attempt. Martin was serving a
50-year term for attempted capital murder. He was convicted of stealing a
truck and hitting a horse being ridden by another guard, who fell to
her death. His execution date was set when he gave up his appeals. It
will be the 16th and final execution of the year in Texas. The trial of
Martin’s co-defendant, John Falk Jr., ended in a mistrial last January.
Prosecutors were seeking a retrial.
